Zhan Zhuang (Standing Pole Postures)

Zhan Zhuang (Standing Pole Postures): It is used for developing the Qi inside the body by focusing on breathing. Through proper breathing the body could achieve balance and improve health from within. Strong internal Qi can be transformed into external forces when we are engaged in a fight.

i. Fist Forms

Bursting fist (崩拳), cannon fist (炮拳), drilling fist (鑽拳), plunging fist (栽拳), and horizontal punch (橫拳).

ii. Palm Forms

Throwing palm(撲掌), snapping palm(塌掌), chopping palm(削掌), clapping palm(撩掌), and puncturing palm(穿掌).

These fist and palm techniques are equivalent to five coordinates, namely, the positions of up, down, left, right and middle. Attack the target from different angles, master the coordinates and target, and use the most decisive methods to solve the problem without thinking.

Friction step This exercise develops our sensitivity to the use of force, so that one might be able to identify, by touch, the departing point of a motion and how it flows. It also enables us to observe the results of different ways of using our strength.

1. Test force

Everyone has its own strengh and can use it to complete different actions. By repeated exercises, we become sensitive to the source of our strength, the direction of its flow, and how to change a static space to an ever-changing space..
